The Juvenile Dependency Support and Reception Unit is located on the third floor in Room 314.

Dependency Court is responsible for hearing cases of minors who are abused, neglected, or abandoned. A dependency hearing may begin with a child being removed from their parents and placed in protective custody. The law allows Child Protective Services - external link to detain a child up to 72 hours for their protection if the officer thinks there is a risk for neglect and abuse. Children are usually taken to the Children's Receiving Home - external link. When a minor is taken into protective custody, the officer or social worker immediately attempts to notify the parent or guardian. If the minor is not in immediate danger of neglect or abuse, and are living with a parent, relative, or friend, the minor may be allowed to remain their pending the Dependency Court proceedings.
